Local shops on Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles

LA is a shopper’s paradise. Impressive boutiques, stores and malls are to be found in every direction. Sifting through the international and national names to come up with the pure local shops, local brands can take some effort. So, your best bet is to head towards the suburbs, away from the malls.

Sunset Plaza is a quaint shopping strip right in the heart of Sunset Boulevard. Frequented by locals and many a fashionista, the two-dozen or so boutiques are mainly international and famed national labels, however within lay a couple of local boutiques worth checking out.

H. Lorenzo.

HLorenzo1 copyH. Lorenzo is a fantastic multi-label boutique specialising in mid to high-end unique designs by emerging and established designers. Stocking a broad selection of streetwear and high-street women’s and men’s fashion the key to this store is their focus on design, and not just fashion or “trends”. Each time you return you will be delighted with the innovation from avant-garde artisans to the most progressive fashion-forward designers – there will always be something different to take home.

Mark Wong Nark

markwongnar3Mark Wong Nark is a local LA label that has been much loved by locals. The man behind the brand, Tom Mark, has been designing clothing for years and has been the brains behind the style of the likes of Kim Kardashian, Cameron Diaz, Denise Richads and the list goes on.

Self titled as a “wonderful dress maker”, Mark has been described as designing dresses that are “innovative, timeless and fit a woman’s figure just right”. His signature dress (a bandage style dress), tucks and nips a lady in all the right places. The store is clean and minimalistic, making the colourful, yet simple dresses pop right out. Proving right from the rack that you’ll be the centre of attention in one these creations.
