It is no secret that Kuala Lumpur is a well-recognised international shopping destination! Upon arriving at KL airport, you may see a billboard claiming that 81% of Malaysians state that shopping is their favourite holiday activity (Redberry). WOW – that’s around 15 million people.
The city is humid, misty and moist. Ahhh… perfect weather for ‘malling’! KL has a lot to offer and three of the main shopping precincts provide some true gems.
Golden Triangle is KL’s answer to the Central Business District (CBD). It is the home to many of the city’s shopping malls, five-star hotels and the iconic Petronas Towers (above). Bukit Bintang is at the heart of the Golden Triangle and reminded us of Tokyo’s Ginza, Sydney’s Pitt Street Mall and Singapore’s Orchard Road.
Bangsar and Midvalley are towards the south of the city. Bangsar has a more suburban vibe, due to its many restaurants and bars while Midvalley, with its Megamall and The Gardens, is one of the city’s most popular shopping destinations.
Damansara and Hartamas are west of the city and largely suburban. These two districts house some of the most up and coming boutiques, restaurants and bars.
Stay tuned for more details on shopping in KL!
Until next time, happy shopping wherever you may be,
