Hunter Valley Roadtrip? Pit Stop at Morpeth!

About 35 kilometres north-west of Newcastle, just a half hour from Hunter Valley Wine Country, or a short fifteen minute drive from Maitland, lays the small historic village Morpeth. In its heyday, back in the mid to late-1800s, Morpeth was a main Hunter River port.

Today, it is a place where even the most addicted destination shopaholics are well-fed. This discrete country town is adorned with stone pathways and Swan Street is lined with the quaintest fashion boutiques and gorgeous homewares stores.

La Belle France is the newest kid on the block, stocking French themed homewares – tablecloths, teatowels, cushion covers, aprons, and kitchen gloves. Savannah on Swan, Timpotoo and The Mews Gallery also carry the perfect gift or that special something for the mantelpiece to remember your trip forever.

Morpeth does not disappoint the fashion conscious! Fleurs of Morpeth, Simply Elegant of Morpeth and Louise’s of Morpeth are a must for the women’s fashion and current trends. And why not complete your shopping pit stop with a bit of bling fromVon Lillianstein Jewellery & Gifts or Morpeth Jewellery Gallery?!

Your destination shopping trip to Morpeth would not be complete if you did not take home some of the local alpaca fashion and homewares from Australian Alpaca Bar and sample the famous sourdough breads, chutneys or jams from Morpeth Sourdough & Arnotts Bakery.

If you don’t visit Morpeth to explore the now thriving shopping strip, just take a few hours out of your Hunter Valley roadtrip to admire the beautifully restored shop-fronts, wharves and posts along the main street. Oh… and don’t forget to stop (revive and survive) at the Commercial Hotel and be served by the ever welcoming and hospitable Ben or Adam.

Until next time, happy shopping wherever you may be!
